In the voicemails, Tiffani Shea Gish threatened to have US District Judge Aileen Cannon assassinated in front of her family for “helping” the former president, as CNN previously reported. Cannon handled the former president’s request for a special master to review documents and other items the FBI seized from Mar-a-Lago. Following her prison sentence, US District Judge David Hittner ordered Gish to serve three years of supervised release, the sentencing order reads. Federal officials have seen a dramatic increase in threats since the search at Mar-a-Lago in 2022. In another instance, a Texas woman was charged in August with threatening in a voicemail to kill the federal judge overseeing Trump’s criminal case in Washington, DC, over his attempts to overturn the 2020 election.

"Not all people will like or condone certain performances," U.S. District Judge David Hittner wrote. Hittner ruled that the Texas law was discriminatory and improperly vague. He said drag performances were not inherently obscene, and were the sort of expressive speech protected by the U.S. Constitution's First Amendment. Other federal judges in Tennessee, Florida and Montana have blocked similar new drag restrictions, finding similar free-speech violations.

A federal judge on Thursday temporarily blocked a new Texas law that would restrict drag shows, a victory for L.G.B.T.Q. groups that have criticized the measure as an attack against drag performers and organizers. If a permanent injunction is granted, the ruling would most likely be appealed by the state. 12, which was set to go into effect on Friday, seeks to “regulate sexually oriented performances,” which has been widely understood to mean drag shows, and to restrict those performances in front of minors.
